Quick Review: The Paper

Every so often MTV and reality TV as a whole surprise me and The Paper (9pm CST on Mondays) is one of those pleasant surprises. Focusing on the staff of the nation’s most decorated student newspaper, the show comes off a bit like the anti Laguna Beach. Don’t get me wrong the kids still look pampered and well off but instead of aspiring trophy wives or fashionistas, these kids look to be the next Barbara Walters (seriously?) or Rupert Murdoch’s (that’s unfortunate) and they’ve got the awkward teen looks to match. I don’t expect The Paper to last long with that pedigree as MTV is a slave to the beautiful people or should I say an audience that wants to be the beautiful people but in the meantime I highly recommend a chance to gaze into the lives of real teens with real goals.
